COSATU North West congratulates Elizabeth Mokua on her appointment to the Executive Council

Kopano Konopi, COSATU North West Provincial Secretary, 21 June 2024

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) in the North West province congratulates Elizabeth Sempe Mokua for her appointment as Member of the Executive Council in the province.

Comrade Lizzy, as she is affectionately known, is the first woman to head up the Department of Public Works and Roads in the province.

Mokua’s appointment confirms the notion that the ANC is an organisation that recognises people based on their capabilities and not exclusively on their gender, hence she has been put in charge of a male-dominated sector.

We also believe that she has the necessary capacity to transform this critical sector to be more inclusive, as this will primarily be the measure she will be assessed against.

Comrade Lizzy is the former Provincial Chairperson of NEHAWU, and member of the COSATU, ANC and South African Communist Party Provincial Executive Committee. This makes her the embodiment of the Tripartite Alliance as she has led all three components of it.

COSATU North West is confident that she is equal to the task ahead and wishes her all the best.

SADTU Free State welcomes the appointment of new MEC for Education

Mokholoane Bricks Moloi, SADTU Free State Provincial Secretary, 21 June 2024

The South African Democratic Teachers Union in Free State welcomes and congratulates, Dr Mantlhake Julia Maboya on her appointment as the new MEC for Education.

Dr Maboya is not new in the education sector, having served as a College Lecturer for Initial Teacher Development, the Chief Director for Curriculum in the province and later joined the Department of Basic Education  as Deputy Director for Curriculum, Assessment and Examinations.

Dr Maboya is inheriting a department that has been performing exceptionally well and  consistently for many consecutive years. This excellent performance has been maintained because of collaborative work of teachers, SMTs and officials across all levels.

As SADTU in the province we commit our support to the MEC and are looking forward to a meeting where she will share her vision for the department. We are looking forward to a sound working relationship with her.
