Welcome friends and community,

The Corvallis Vision Zero community welcomes discussion and solutions for creating a safe transportation system in Corvallis. Vision Zero is a holistic strategy to improve road safety, health and equitable mobility in response to ongoing serious injuries and fatalities on our streets. On June 1, 2020 Corvallis joined cities like Portland and Eugene in putting the safety of all road users as our highest transportation priority by approving a resolution supporting Vision Zero.

The resolution states that the city:

  • endorses the Vision Zero concept and supports efforts to prioritize safety improvements for all users of the transportation system;

  • believes that emphasizing safety improvements targeted towards the most vulnerable transportation system users is effective;

  • will maintain a list of the ten locations with highest number of crashes and act to reduce the risk in those locations using education, enforcement, design, and capital improvements.

Committing to Vision Zero will take the following strategies:

» Building and sustaining leadership, collaboration, and accountability – especially among a diverse group of stakeholders to include transportation professionals, policymakers, public health officials, police, and community members;

» Collecting, analyzing, and using data to understand trends and potential disproportionate impacts of traffic deaths on certain populations;

» Prioritizing equity and community engagement;

» Managing speed to safe levels; and

» Setting a timeline to achieve zero traffic deaths and serious injuries, which brings urgency and accountability, and ensuring transparency on progress and challenges.

Although currently out of date, our Google Calendar is a clearinghouse for events of interest in our community. Please share meetings and events that promote a healthy, safe, and accessible future for our city.
