Acme lead screws

I love the fact that they are called "acme" lead screws because it
reminds me of that clever coyote and his mail order deliveries.

Here is an x-y router made with garage door opener acme screws.

That rules out building a CNC router since it has been done already. :-)

Jeremy suggested a laser instead of a router, but I am afraid of using
high power lasers because it might feed that part of my brain that seeks
global domination.

More prosaically, you want to be able to move a laser very fast,
and a screw drive won't do that.
