I got a kit for a Rostock MAX when I went to Maker Faire in May. The
Rostock MAX is a large format delta printer. I got it assembled in
five days, then spent the next two months tweaking it. Since
mid-August, I've been just using it to print things (knock
fiberboard). I've probably melted about a kilogram of ABS so far.

I use OpenSCAD, and I've also been learning FreeCAD. I think FreeCAD
is better, but I'm still more proficient in OpenSCAD. (Learning
curve.) FreeCAD is a more traditional GUI-oriented CAD system. It
can do the CSG style modeling that OpenSCAD does, but the preferred
method is to make 2D drawings and extrude/rotate them into 3D. It is
also scriptable and extensible in Python. I haven't looked at that.
So I guess you can take that as a recommendation. (-:

In other news, my laser cutter is still in (very slow) progress, and
I'm spending a lot of time with Eugene Maker Space. We have outgrown
our current shop and are actively shopping for a bigger place.
