Hi eTailers,

Session 1 of the Facebook Money Mastery series was on Tuesday.  It focused on lead generation. Here are some pearls -

The engagement rate is the percentage of your fans who are talking about your page.  Divide the 'talking about' number by your total fan count.  Anything over 2% is considered good.

Having an opt in function is essential.  Find and use a social app and put it on an app tab.  These appear next to the tab to you photos.  You can customize your timeline page to display up to four tabs as the default view, more can be added but only four will show without pulling open a drop down menu.  The photos tab is fixed by Facebook & will always be the first tab.

It was suggested that you not use the word 'submit' on a button face.  Use other action words related to what the button will do for the user.  Best results are achieved with button action when the face is red and turns to green on mouse over.

Frame your privacy statements in positives - "We will protect your private information" rather than "We will never sell, rent, etc."

Take advantage of using the Facebook credentials for users to log into your own website.

You can 'Pin' a story on your timeline to appear at the top of the page.  If you have several posts that create significant leads or fans, alternate between them every week.  Pinned posts return to their normal position in the timeline after being pinned for a week.

Create a 'likegate', give the user some sort of reward for having liked your page and have it happen immediately.  Facebook can detect whether a visitor to you page is already a fan or not.  Give fans enhanced content and give them something of value the moment they become a fan.

Session two comes up tomorrow at Noon at Footwise.

I have not seen a topic outline for the series so I don't know the focus of tomorrow's session.  Marie Smith, the presenter, is clearly a thought leader in Facebook marketing and her half-hour lecture is filled with little asides and brief mentions of resources and web links that should be noted and explored later.  My favorite so far is Snagit, a screen capture and image editing package that gives you great tools for working with text and images that are either generated from within the program, captured via camera or from your screen.

Please RSVP if you are planning to attend so we make sure we have enough chairs on hand.

Plan to take notes!  Plan on interesting discussions after the presentation!

Thanks so much for sending this summary, Peter. It's hard for me to get into town (1 hr commute) for a short time. Your email has given me a number of great ideas.

Are you/have you already implemented any of the ideas on your page - opt in function, "likegate"?

I've been looking for an explanation of how to set up a "likegate" - does anyone in this list know how or where to get info?

Thanks everyone and esp Peter.

Jean,

Regarding like-gates for page tabs in Facebook.: I see http://www.avalonwine.com
is PHP. Here is a good resource/solution for PHP. https://github.com/facebook/php-sdk
