On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the Corvallis City Club and the League of Women Voters will offer meetings to discuss homelessness and housing in Corvallis.
At 5:30 pm at the Majestic Theater, the City Club will turn attention to the shelters that serve the city's homeless population. Panelists include shelter operators Gina Vee from Corvallis Housing First, Kari
Whitacre of Community Outreach, Sara Power from Room at the Inn and Ann Craig
from Jackson Street Youth Shelter. Bethany Carlson will also
be on hand; she regularly reports on homelessness and shelters at The Corvallis Advocate.
This meeting will focus on what area shelters now
offer and their future plans. What sorts of people do each of
these shelters serve? What plans does each have and how does the county’s
homelessness plan affect them? There will be a time for attendees to pose
questions as well.
Doors will open for
a short mixer at 5:00 pm.
Attendance is
free and open to the public. Registration is not necessary. This special event will take
the place of the usual City Club monthly meeting and will
conclude by 6:45. See http://www.cityclubofcorvallis.org.
At 7 pm at the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library, the League of Women Voters will host a panel on affordable housing. Speakers will include Ken Gibb, Corvallis Community Development; Sue Long, Willamette Association of Realtor; John Miller, Oregon Opportunity Network; Jim Moorefield, Willamette Neighborhood Housing.
Panel members will give brief presentations on options to improve
availability of low income/medium income housing. Ken Gibb will address
specifically the City's recent consultant's report on housing. The
other panelists will address available options. There will be time for
questions. See http://www.lwv.corvallis.or.us/.
