Subject: Cannabis Policy: Moving Beyond Stalemate

Dear SSDP,

First of all, apologies for the group email. My name is Josh Tomalin and I am a Drug Policy Researcher at The Beckley Foundation, a charitable organisation that conducts research into currently illegal drugs and lobbies for an evidence-based drug policy.

I wanted to draw your attention to our latest book, Cannabis Policy: Moving Beyond Stalemate. This work represents the most up to date evaluation of the evidence on the health and social impacts of cannabis use and the consequences of its prohibition. Its conclusions contain a new draft Convention on Cannabis that aims to replace the failed criminalisation framework with a health-focused approach.

You can read the full book and the extended summaries at:

I hope you can use the evidence contained within to carry on the work of educating people about the harms of a prohibitionist approach to drug law. Specifically, those of you are involved in the efforts to pass Prop 19 may find the science contained in the book useful in making your arguments.

Do have a look at our website/FB/Twitter and please feel free to get in touch if we can be of any help.

Best Regards,
Josh Tomalin
