Bart --

As a supporter of Move to Amend's goal of passing a federal Constitutional amendment that ends corporate personhood and money as speech, I am excited to tell you that House Joint Resolution (HJR) 48 the "We the People" amendment has been introduced by Representative Rick Nolan (MN) with 5 co-sponsors.

Just last week, Oregon's Representative Earl Blumenhauer joined the group of co-sponsors.

It is time to call on our Representative DeFazio to co-sponsor the only bill this session that calls for an amendment with both MTA pillars that are so essential to restoring democracy.

History: The following public statements of support for Move to Amend's two pillars were initiated by supporters like you, working at the state and local levels.

  • In 2013, the state of Oregon, through House Joint Memorial (HJM) 6, petitioned its federal representatives to draft or support a Constitutional amendment with the two MTA pillars.

  • In 2012, the citizens of Corvallis and Eugene made similar petitions of our representatives.

  • Further, passing an amendment with these two pillars has been the first (2012) and second (2014) highest Priority Legislative Action Items of the Oregon Democratic platform.

DeFazio is a co-sponsor of other amendment bills, but none of them contains both pillars.  Clearly the citizens of the state of Oregon want an amendment containing both MTA pillars.  Let us all tell Representative DeFazio that his constituents want him to co-sponsor HJR 48.

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
