Inquiry about Basic Information on Corundum

I am an undergraduate student, and my professor would like me to replicate the Corundum project as my thesis. However, I am new to this field and would like to inquire about the type of FPGA board I should prepare to replicate this project. Do I need a board that supports PCIe 3.0 x16, or can I complete the design using a PCIe 3.0 x8 interface? Additionally, I would appreciate any advice or suggestions that could help me quickly learn and replicate this project.
