Hi Ken + Steve

Really good to meet you last week and thank you for the kind words.  As promised, I wanted to introduce to you Bob and Marc at Freshtracks, another production Cortex user.  They're based in Boulder.

I've also started a Cortex mailing list: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/cortex-monitoring which might be a better place to ask questions and have discussions than the slack channel, as email tends to deal better with timezones...

Something that might be of interest to all of you: I spent the flight home on Friday hacking on some query optimisations and got fantastic results - >60x reduction in memory usage and >8x reduction in CPU for month-long queries: https://github.com/weaveworks/cortex/pull/713.  I'm just testing this out on the Kausal clusters but I hope this will also help with some of the recording-rule related problems you've been having.

Cheers

Tom

Ken and Steve great to meet you virtually.

Our group, FreshTracks, is working on adding machine learning to a hosted Prometheus offering.  You can imagine Cortex will be a key enabler for hosted solution.

We were hoping to get a community call going on a regular basis.  The call might need to be fairly early in the AM to ensure the European contingent can attend.  What time zone are you in? How early is too early for you?

Cheers
Marc

Hey Folks,

EA crew are in a mix timezones – our Metrics team is split across PST (Seattle), and CST (Austin)

we’re pretty used to working with Studios in GMT/CET.

How early is too early?  Ken and I are both in PST and roll in pretty early.
7:30am is probably the earliest for calls.

Scheduling-wise – mid-week days preferred if we can.  Let’s avoid Mondays just to give folks time to

catchup with weekend pager action.
