What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Loading the game as per normal. This occurs for all renderers; DirectX,
SDL and GPL.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The game should be able to run as per normal. Instead there is a black
screen upon starting up, and all keyboard and mouse functions are disabled.
The only way out is to reset my PC

What version of CorsixTH are you using (e.g. "Beta 2", "SVN r123")?
0.20

What operating system / compile settings are you using?
Laptop, Windows 7 32 Bit. No graphic card, using an Intel HD 4000 on-board
card instead.

What level was this on (e.g. "Demo level", "Full game level 12")?
Game couldn't start to load a level

Attach a saved game file (preferably an autosave from before the error) if
you have one and it is relevant.
None available

Where did you get your original Theme Hospital from?

There is this in the known issues section for 0.20:

Some versions of the game available on warez or abandonware sites are known
to be corrupt. These versions are known include broken movies and missing
sound effects which cause CorsixTH to crash.

I got my copy from good old games, Gog.com


Weird though, it works on my desktop PC but on not my laptop

Lets see, if it works on the desktop, but not the laptop try comparing the
folders and files to see if you have something missing on the laptop.

The obvious one would be is there a folder named intro, but if it was that
that was missing it should just skip playing the movie.

Do you have any other games on the laptop that works?

If not, maybe you have forgotten to install (or maybe update) you graphic
driver?

Just had a thought. Try and play in a window to see if you have the same
issue.

I am thinking that this may be the directx / fullscreen issue

Thanks for the heads up, I'll try updating my drivers and see if there's
any difference in folders/ files. 


If it's anything helpful, Corsix-TH (DirectX renderer) crashed on my
desktop once before working on subsequent tries

ISSUE RESOLVED

Apparently it wasn't a driver issue or a problem with the integrity of the
game files. It was Comodo Firewall all along.

After running this windowed, Comodo popped up asking for permission to run
this file. Interestingly, closing Comodo Firewall completely before running
Corsix-TH does not work; you must approve the prompt no matter what on your
first run.

For the uninitiated, the option to run Corsix-TH windowed lies in the
config.txt file in the AppData, or you could set the Corsix-TH shortcut to
run this minimized.

I used the DirectX renderer, but I think this should work for all renderers.

Hm, weird.
Firewalls only control the network data going in/out of the PC, or is
Comodo also somewhat a anti-virus or anti-malware program?
Because CTH doesn't ask for, or send, any network data (yet)?

Comodo Firewall is primarily a firewall, but it actively monitors programs
running as well (they don't even need to request connection to the Internet
for Comodo to demand permission)
