Why an Employee Identity Card becomes imperative for an Organization?

Apart from plenty of documents provided to a new employee, an ID card is also given. In the office time, each employee has to bear this card hanging in the neck or tie with the pants belt.

But there are some questions, why ID badges are made? What is their importance? Are they beneficial for organization? How does it work for an employee? Let’s have a glance at a few reasons:

Employment Evidence:

The ID card gives a definite proof that the person carrying the card works for the particular organization, and all the security personnel need to do is check the ID and the let the person through into the organization’s premises.

Restrict Access/ Security:

In most organizations, not all employees have complete inter departmental access. Also there are some rooms/floor/cabins/amenities/facilities that cannot be accessed by everybody, and an employee ID card helps determines who has access to what.

A Sense of Belonging:

Every employee wants to “belong” to the organization that he works for. An ID card exudes this sense of belonging with not just the organization but also the members of the organization. The fact that they feel a part of the organization means it gives them an impulsion to perform better.

Time Recording Approach:

An ID card is also a way to keep tracking of an employee’s entry and exit times. The card may need to show at reception desk or to be swiped right at the entrance to the premise or the respective department’s door. This means employees can save time for not signing a register or something. Also the management can keep records of employee in and out times. With the help of Magstrip/ Proximity/ MiFare/ RFID etc. cards, tracking becomes an automated process.

Access to Special Discounts:

Several organizations offer their employees a lot of perks through ID card. These are in the form of restaurant discounts, ticket discounts at movie theatres and many others. Employees of an organization can get access to these discounts by showing their ID cards.

Personal Identity:

An employee ID card also serves as a personal ID card. The card carries the personal information like photo, name, national identity, contact address, whom to call in case of emergency, blood group etc. In case of any emergency, such as accident or robbery or a medical emergency or something else, ID card assists to be guided/ helped the victim holders.

Work Culture Expression:

Employee ID badges are an intrinsic part of the work culture of any organization. The card also portrays the brand image of the firms. The scope of the ID card and all that it represents changes from one organization to another; so while somebody will make a card an important part of the performance evaluation process of an employee, somebody else might just consider it a security feature that is just one of the many ways in which an organization is made more secure.

Conclusion:

These are just some of the many reasons why an ID card is important for an organization. As can be seen, the ID card/Badge plays multiple roles and some way or the other help the employees and the organizations as well.
