Job Title: Microsoft SQL Database Administrator
Location: Boston MA, Orlando FL, Houston TX
Duration: 12+ Month

Role Summary:
The SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and
maintaining Microsoft SQL Server environments across multiple versions
and platforms, including AWS (EC2 and RDS). The role involves ensuring
database availability, performance tuning, replication, patching, and
implementing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
· Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances across multiple
environments (2017, 2016, 2014, 2012, 2008R2, and earlier).
· Implement and support Always On Availability Groups, Replication,
Database Mirroring, and Log Shipping.
· Perform database backups, recovery, patching, and upgrades across
on-premises and AWS-hosted servers (EC2 and RDS).
· Conduct performance tuning and query optimization using SQL Profiler,
Execution Plans, and Performance Monitor.
· Manage SQL Server security, user access, roles, and permissions.
· Develop and schedule maintenance plans, including index management,
statistics updates, and consistency checks.
· Perform data migration and environment refreshes between development,
QA, and production systems.
· Monitor database health and automate alerts using tools like
Spotlight, Foglight, or similar.
· Collaborate with development teams to review SQL scripts before
production deployment.
· Support business continuity with effective DR planning and execution.
· Document database procedures, standards, and architecture diagrams.

Required Skills and Experience:
· 5+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server Database
Administration.
· Strong expertise in High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR)
technologies.
· Experience in AWS RDS / EC2 SQL Server setup, migration, and backup
management.
· Solid understanding of T-SQL, database design, and performance
optimization techniques.
· Experience with patch management, edition downgrade/upgrade, and
replication models (snapshot, transactional, merge).
· Familiarity with SQL Server Clustering and NetBackup configuration.
· Exposure to monitoring tools such as Spotlight, Foglight, or
SolarWinds.
· Experience in ITIL environments using tools like ServiceNow or
Cherwell.

Good to Have:
· Knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB as secondary databases.
· Basic exposure to automation scripting (PowerShell, Python).
· Experience with cloud migration projects and DevOps CI/CD pipelines
for database deployment.

Education & Certifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or
related field.

Preferred Certifications:
· Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator / Azure
Database Administrator
· AWS Certified Database – Specialty (optional)
· ITIL Foundation

Soft Skills:
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
· Good communication and coordination abilities.
· Ability to work independently and in a global team environment.
