Location: Santa Clara
Role Overview
Applied Materials is seeking a highly experienced Senior WordPress Platform Engineer to lead the architecture, security, and governance of enterprise-scale WordPress environments.
This is a hands-on technical ownership role focused on Support as well as on driving platform strategy, scalability, and security
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Platform Ownership
• Lead the design and management of WordPress multisite architecture for enterprise-scale deployments
• Own platform scalability, performance optimization, and high availability
• Serve as the primary technical owner, driving design decisions and best practices
Security & Compliance
• Implement and manage enterprise-grade security controls
• Drive vulnerability management, including patching, monitoring, and remediation
• Ensure compliance with corporate security policies and industry standards
Plugin & Platform Governance
• Establish and enforce plugin lifecycle management (evaluation, approval, upgrades, deprecation)
• Define governance frameworks for code quality, security, and maintainability
• Maintain consistency across multisite environments
Development & Collaboration
• Collaborate closely with internal development teams and stakeholders
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to developers
• Review code and ensure adherence to architecture and security standards
AI-enabled Engineering
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude) to enhance productivity and code quality
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices within the team
Required Qualifications
• 12+ years of experience in web/platform engineering, with strong focus on WordPress
• Proven expertise in WordPress multisite architecture and operations
• Strong background in enterprise security and vulnerability management
• Experience managing plugin ecosystems at scale with governance controls
• Demonstrated experience as a technical lead or platform owner
• Strong knowledge of PHP, MySQL, REST APIs, and modern web technologies
• Experience working in enterprise environments with cross-functional teams
• Experience working with Copilot, Claude

• Experience in high-tech or semiconductor industry environments
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure/GCP) and CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to headless WordPress or modern frontend frameworks
• Strong understanding of DevSecOps practices
