It seems like every time I even look at cornerhost, I spend days
dealing with spammers and compromised scripts and never actually get
around to little things like, say, talking to customers or actually
improving anything. I just deal with the fallout of the latest
disaster.

Yet, somehow, there are still customers here. I'm not sure what to
make of this.

Maybe the few who are left are self sufficient, or don't require much
support... Or would prefer to leave but just haven't done so?

I'm not sure cornerhost is even a business anymore. It certainly
doesn't make any money.

It's time to either fix this thing or put it to rest.

Thoughts?

Sincerely,

Michal J Wallace

Personally and honestly, you seem pretty unhappy about it. It started out with the best of intentions, but it feels like it's become something that you simply beat yourself up over. I think for your own sanity, you could take the lessons learned, chock-up the experience, and focus your time and efforts where you're happier. I would be OK if you moved on. I know you've struggled with this situation, but always know that when it was working, it was really great. I really appreciated all of your help and the way you cared for each of us and our websites personally. You cared, tried, you worked hard at it, and you're awesome. As far as I'm concerned, be released.

Yeah I just don't think you are wanting to have this be an actual
business concern anymore and should just own that. I've moved on. I'm
sure other people have too. I'm sympathetic to whatever you're dealing
with on a personal level but the last few times you've gone through to
try to fix it, it didn't actually work. Unless you have a plan that is
different from "I'll get things fixed!" (i.e. hiring someone else,
merging with another company, sharing root access with users and
becoming a collective) I think you should just let this go. Spend
whatever energy you feel like you still have helping people get
situated in other places (exporting and moving data, transferring
databases etc) and then give yourself a rest.

I'd like to reply as a 'pretty self-sufficient' person on Cornerhost and really don't need much. Please let my reply more fully when I have access to a proper keyboard. I'm on a bus now...

As a lifetimer, I just see it as an available linux host I can use, although I rarely log in.  Have otherwise cleared most of my "important stuff" off already.

Is the server gone? I tried to FTP in to get some of my stuff off and got a DNS error...

Hmm, seeing same thing.

ssh: Could not resolve hostname argon.sabren.com: nodename nor servname provided, or not known

Was hoping to have one last chance to clear stuff off....
