WVBR'S BOUND FOR GLORY'S 53rd YEAR CONTINUES, LATE FALL 2019

Phil Shapiro, host of WVBR's Bound for Glory since its inception in 1967, announces the Late Fall schedule, continuing the 53rd year of this Central New York musical tradition.

WVBR's Bound for Glory, North America's longest running live folk concert broadcast, broadcasts live from the Alternatives Library, Anabel Taylor Hall at Cornell, on Sunday nights.  Bound for Glory brings central New York another series of free folk concerts, on WVBR-FM, 93.5.  We promise some excellent acoustic music, presented by long-time host Phil Shapiro.

The show runs Sunday nights from 8 to 11, with live sets at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30.  All three sets are different.  Come to as many sets as you wish.  Admission in the live audience at Anabel Taylor is free and is open to everyone in the area.  Kids are always welcome.  Refreshments are available.  For further information, call Phil Shapiro at 607-844-4535, or e-mail pd...@cornell.edu.

Find out about upcoming Bound for Glory shows, and about how you can help, through the Friends of Bound for Glory, by looking up http://wvbr.com or http://boundforglory.org on the Web.  Everyone can listen to Bound for Glory on line.  The website tells you how.

OCT. 20      MARA LEVINE AND GATHERING TIME.  Mara Levine has done Bound for Glory several times, but Gathering Time is a new experience for all of us.  An excellent song collection, of songs new and not so new, with magical arrangements.  Lots of excellent energy, worth sharing.  Maralevine.com

OCT. 27      LARRY KAPLAN.  One of our favorite songwriters, Larry Kaplan writes songs of the sea, of his favorite Connecticut River, and of the land.  He has a marvelous way with words, and he sings the truth in life.  What a wonderful guy!!!  Please welcome him back to Bound for Glory.  Larrykaplanmusic.com

NOV. 3        BILL STAINES.  Bill Staines writes some of the very best songs of the last, oh, 50 years or so.  His songs have wonderful choruses, so please come be part of the live audience, and sing along.  Bill’s songs go before him.  A lot of people think his songs are part of the folk tradition, and are surprised to find the author.  Acousticmusic.com/staines

NOV. 10      ARISE AND GO.  The tunes of Ireland.  And Scotland.  And Atlantic Canada.  Arise and Go has incredibly close timing, and wonderful tune selection.  They live, for the moment, in Ithaca.  But one of them comes from New Brunswick, Canada.  The last time they were on the show they won the Best of Bound for Glory award.  Ariseandgo.org

NOV. 17      JOY BENNETT AND CHRIS KOLDEWEY.   Joy and Chris make quite a couple, quite a pair.  Their songs tend toward the traditional, songs of the sea and the land.  They have found the happiness in singing the old songs, in keeping the old ways alive.  And they smile a lot.  Chriskoldewey.com

NOV. 24      TERRY KELLEHER.  Terry is funny, and unexpected.  And he’s one of the people who makes Bound for Glory work on Sunday nights.  He’s a wild songwriter, and he has a style all his own.  We’ll let him loose, and enjoy both his own songs and his wide-ranging repertoire that’s very special.  Newforcesolutions.com

DEC. 1        ALBUMS FROM THE STUDIOS.  HAPPY THANKSGIVING.  GIVE PHIL AT CALL AT 607-273-2121.

DEC. 8        THE NEW CUT ROAD STRING BAND..  Oh, you know these folks, from the Ithaca String Band scene, playing old timey dance tunes, singing old songs.  Lively and earthy.   Music from the Southern Appalachians.   Plus Steve Arkin, banjo player extraordinare.  Newcutroad.org

From DECEMBER 15 through JANUARY 19, 2020, Bound for Glory will be Albums from the Studios.  Catch the Winter Solstice show on DECEMBER 15, the Christmas Special show, with a nod to Chanukah, on DECEMBER 22, and the New Year's Special on DECEMBER 29. Twelfth Night?  January 5.  Holiday songs you won't hear in the shopping malls.  Give Phil a call at 607-273-2121.  Next Live Bound for Glory?  JANUARY 26, 2020.
