WVBR'S BOUND FOR GLORY, 51st YEAR, SUMMER 2018

Yes, there are six live Bound for Glory broadcasts this and every Summer.  Phil Shapiro, host of WVBR's Bound for Glory since its inception in 1967, announces the Summer portion of the 51st year of this Central New York musical tradition.

WVBR's Bound for Glory, North America's longest running live folk concert broadcast, broadcasts live from the Alternatives Library, Anabel Taylor Hall at Cornell, on Sunday nights.  Bound for Glory brings central New York another series of free folk concerts, on WVBR-FM, 93.5 and 105.5, and streaming on line at wvbr.com, or at boundforglory.org..  We promise some excellent acoustic music, presented by long-time host Phil Shapiro.

The show runs Sunday nights from 8 to 11, with live sets at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30.  All three sets are different.  Come to as many sets as you wish.  Admission in the live audience, at Anabel Taylor Hall, is free and is open to everyone in the area.  Kids are always welcome.    Refreshments are available.   For further information, call Phil Shapiro at 607-844-4535, or e-mail at pd...@cornell.edu.

Find out about upcoming Bound for Glory shows, and about how you can help, through the Friends of Bound for Glory, by looking up wvbr.com, or boundforglory.org on the Web.  Everyone can listen to Bound for Glory on line.  The websites tell you how.

JUNE 2    LIZA DISAVINO AND A.J. BODNAR.   They live in the Catskills, and have a wonderful collection of regional traditional songs and stories to share with you.  New York State has a whole lot of both songs and stories that are hiding in plain sight.  Their first time on Bound for Glory.  lizaandaj.com

JULY 1    THE TWANGTOWN PARAMOURS.  What wonderful songwriters.    Mary Beth Zamer and Mike Lewis come from  Nashville, TN, with a whole lot of sparkle and a smile.  Enjoy their first live Bound for Glory show.  twangtownparamours.com

JULY 8     PIERCE PETTIS.  What a good performer.  Pierce Pettis comes from Alabama, with more to say than almost anyone.  He tells stories with his songs.  Catch this outstanding folksinger in his natural habitat.  He’s done Bound for Glory several times, and is welcome any time.  Piercepettis.com

JULY 15   THE VOLLMERS.  Old Timey music from a couple of people who really know what they’re doing.  Brian Vollmer, Claire Byrne, and maybe some friends.  We’ll have us a good time. Banjoandfiddle.com .

JULY 22    JOHN O’CONNOR.   It’s been 31 years since John’s last appearance on Bound for Glory, but neither of us has forgotten the experience.  When John came back on the road, he got right in touch with us.  He’s a magical guy, a fine writer and teller of tales, and we’ll all be glad to see him again. JULY 29    PAT WICTOR AND DEBORAH LATZ..  Many know Pat Wictor as a solo, and as a member of the wonderful trio Brother Sun.  But we’ve never heard him with Deborah Latz.  They promise some really interesting songs, quite different from what Pat has done before, sure to leave us grinning. From AUGUST 5th through the 19th, Bound for Glory will be Albums from the Studios, as Cornell resumes its Summer Break, and  the room we use at Anabel Taylor is not available.  Give Phil a call on Sunday night at 607-273-2121.  The 52nd year, of WVBR's Bound for Glory, live, starts on AUGUST 26th.
