Last time I reached out, someone did an amazing job fixing an image I was using as a desktop wallpaper. New challenge is: can someone turn that same image into a wallpaper suitable for mobile phones? (specifically an iPhone XR, if that matters)

I remember that shortly after H3 was released, IOI sent me an advertising email. They recommended their wallpaper. I remember there was a website in the email where I could buy their wallpapers. But I have deleted that email. Does anyone remember that website?

Gameplay in Sniper is split up into two sections for the two different mission packs; Montenegro, which is the main set of the game, containing all the targets, missions, rifles and upgrades, and Death Valley, which is an unlockable, expanded three-stage mission set in which you must protect an anonymous figure named Ben from hordes of infinite zombies.

Montenegro is a one-level pack, which contains a variety of challenges (which are deemed "missions") about assassinating various NPCs on the level, whether this pertains to killing characters with accident kills, or straight up killing one of the targets for a score.

While the default starting rifle is the Izanami, the player may choose whichever rifle they wish from a wide selection in the pre-mission armory. These rifles may be unlocked as the player progresses (and gains weapon parts from a "weapon roulette" at the end of each mission), or can be purchased for real money. Some rifles, such as the Jaeger, give the player various boosts (such as giving a 50% discount on all Death Valley upgrades). All rifles, when using in-game currency, can be upgraded to increase various aspects like fire-rate and stability.

Death Valley has the player protecting an anonymous man named Ben, whom is trying to repair his car but is being harassed by hordes of zombies. The player's job (on Normal and Hard difficulties) is to protect Ben at all costs until he can get his car up and running, while Expert difficulty has the player defending Ben against infinite hordes, never to fix his car.

Ben's car can appear in three different places in the Death Valley missions. One spot is down near the south, one near the north, and one near the northeast. These spots are changed depending on the difficulty, Normal being in the south, Hard being in the north, and Expert being in the northeast.

Death Valley also introduces the new token system, which came with a new upgrading system. When a player completes certain tasks in a mission, that unlocks the upgrade for purchase, which can be bought with tokens earned at the end of each Death Valley mission. The prices of these upgrades stack at around 2,500 to 3,000+, and are usually pretty poor-quality.

While neither Montenegro nor Death Valley contain a cohesive plot, both can be generalized by their gameplay. Montenegro places the player inside the first-person perspective of Agent 47, on top of a mountain sniping various members all staying at a building in Montenegro. Diana spectates Agent 47 for every mission, giving him compliments and confirmations throughout depending on his actions.

The game received "generally favorable" reviews, according to video game review aggregator Metacritic. Gamezebo named the title among the best mobile games released in June 2015. Reviewers praised the cleverness and minimalism of its puzzle design, but wanted more variety from its activity-dense scenarios. They noted how they came to know the characters intimately after memorizing each character's routes and remembering how they respond to different kinds of coaxing. This predictability felt great, the TouchArcade reviewer wrote, when he could instinctively respond to new combinations of targets, but as a trade-off, the game mechanics quickly became repetitive. The Gamezebo reviewer felt otherwise, and commended how the game's setting, despite its consistency, remained fresh and exciting as new targets and complications were added. Pocket Gamer's reviewer found the game's alternative methods for killing targets through "traps and tricks" to be the game's most interesting element.

The Gamezebo reviewer had special praise for the game's sound design and how it was used to clue the player into puzzle solutions. TouchArcade commended how the game's sparse story unfolded by watching the assassination targets go about their time at the compound. The reviewer also noted that his suspension of disbelief was broken when characters would eventually return to partying after reacting to a gunshot, but suggested that the game's Easter eggs redeemed its psychopathic qualities. Pocket Gamer wrote that the game did not reach the heights of the series' situational humor in hiding bodies stealthily. Other criticism included Gamezebo, which blamed the game's core multiplier ability for breaking the balance of the game. TouchArcade thought that the game played better on the tablet iPad than on the smaller iPhone, and praised the feature that synced game progress, since Apple's iCloud service was known for its struggle to successfully implement the same feature. Despite Square Enix Montreal being best known for its Go series, Hitman: Sniper was the studio's biggest revenue generator. As its most lucrative title, the game helped to fund the development of the Go series.

The Hitman series is known for complex controls, difficult missions and generally the kind of elements that I would think would never work well on iOS devices. For the second time in a row, Square Enix Montreal is poised to prove me wrong.

After the excellent surprise of Hitman Go earlier this year, that studio is now working on Hitman: Sniper. Like Hitman Go, Sniper reimagines the series' contract killings in a form that fits better on mobile and tablet devices. But this time it's far less abstracted, but it still completely works.

Though you always have a primary target, much of the challenge in Hitman: Sniper will be getting rid of potential witnesses to the crime. In the mission I test out, I'm looking into a fancy apartment condo. Guards are patrolling the area around where my target is hanging out. Each guard I take out earns me points.

At one point, I shoot one guard only to see another coming in the same direction. To avoid raising an alarm, I shoot the first guard's body a second time, knocking it into a nearby pool. It's a goofy tactic that doesn't make much logical sense, but it earns me bonus points for hiding the body.

The more I play, the more I realize that Hitman: Sniper isn't about logic at all. It's about figuring out what weird things you can do in each environment and then stringing them together for the most points possible.

In one of my playthroughs of the same map, I notice two people playing pool in a room below the target. Not expecting anything to happen, I shoot one of the pool balls. This causes another ball to ricochet into the corner pocket, which in turn starts an argument between the two players. Eventually guards from up above head downstairs to see what the fuss is all about.

Further pushing replays is Hitman: Sniper's "rival" system. At any point during a level, you will see the person who has the next-higher score on the leaderboards in the upper-right corner. Square Enix Montreal says the idea is to encourage you to take small steps forward each time rather than intimidating players by looking at a number one ranking that seems impossible to reach.

Players will also be pushed back into levels to try out a constant series of unlocks and upgrades. After a successful mission, the game plays a roulette mini-game to award players with parts, which can then be used to assemble new weapons. Each weapon levels up individual and unlocks abilities. The sniper rifle I used had supersonic rounds that would create noise and draw guards to an area as well as a rapid fire ability that allowed me to shoot several bullets in quick succession.

Of course, as a free-to-play game, players will be able to fast-track their journey to the top of the leaderboards if they're willing to open their wallets. Square Enix Montreal assured me that everything in the game can be obtained through regular play, but new weapons and XP boosts to increase the speed of gaining abilities will be available for purchase.

As much as I'm wary of the microtransactions and the push to make a well-known console and PC franchise working on mobile and tablets, I walked away from E3 impressed with Hitman: Sniper. I'm looking forward to playing it more when it arrives on iOS this fall.

Eager to take classic Hitman action on the go? Square Enix has revealed the newest Hitman mobile game during its E3 2021 presentation, and Hitman Sniper: The Shadows follows a new storyline of lethal assassins, international targets, and intrigue.

When the game opens, franchise protagonist Agent 47 is gone, leaving players to take over a new quintet of sniper assassins to help handler Diana Burnwood and the International Contract Agency (ICA) to handle a new threat.

The premium mobile game has rapidly become one of the studio's biggest hits, alongside the Go series (Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go and Deus Ex Go). But the title's success also seems to surpass that of its AAA source material.

In 2015, a Square Enix annual report declared that the Hitman series had sold more than 15 million units across PC and console since the original released in 2000. While the episodic Hitman 2016 has proven to be popular, it's unlikely to have matched the 10 million figure achieved by the mobile spin-off.

Of course, this accomplishment is purely in terms of unit sales and aided in no small part to the ubiquitous nature of smart devices. While the console and PC audience is smaller, it has most likely generated more money via game sales - each Hitman tends to launch at full price, while Sniper costs just 4.99 (and has occasionally been discounted).

The player count is likely to rise over the next week, with Square Enix Montreal making the game free-to-play for the first time, although only until April 4th. This is to celebrate the 10 million milestone.
