Hello all -

Summer is almost here, and with it the fourth edition of our summer walking tour series at Enoch Turner Schoolhouse – “Settling in the City.” The tour will take place on Saturday June 2, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will start and end at the Schoolhouse. Please find the event flyer attached.

Tours start at Enoch Turner Schoolhouse and wind through Corktown, visiting Little Trinity Anglican Church, W.G. Cork Grocery Store, the former Freyseng Cork Company, the Alumnae Theatre, the former W. Reid Lumber Company, the Parliament interpretive centre and the Distillery District. The tours will focus on the immigrant and industrial history of the neighbourhood, with particular focus on the wave of Irish immigrants who arrived in the area in the 1840s. Tours run rain or shine; participants are encouraged to come prepared for all weather conditions.

The walking tour will be offered on the first Saturday of the month until October this year – if you’re unable to make the June date, you have 4 more opportunities to take the tour or bring family and friends! Each tour will follow the same route through Corktown and the Distillery District. Here are the dates for the walking tours:

Saturday June 2, 2012 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday July 7, 2012 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday August 4, 2012 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday September 1, 2012 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Saturday October 6, 2012 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Doors will open at 10:45 a.m. for registration, and the tour will begin promptly at 11 a.m. The tour route stretches 2.5km, and is travelled at a moderate pace over wheelchair-accessible terrain. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students, seniors and Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Foundation members. Space is limited – visit Enoch Turner Schoolhouse, call 416-327-6997 or reply to this email to reserve your spot!
