On November 26th Dublin Council of Trade Unions will lead a National pre-budget march against the ongoing government programme of austerity beginning at Parnell square, Dublin at 12pm.
This march which has the support of SIPTU and a number of other Trade Unions including the United left Alliance.

The demonstration has been called on three broad demands:

  • End the policy of austerity – reverse the cutbacks.
  • Tax the Greedy not the needy.
  • Public investment in job creation.

The speakers will mainly comprise grassroots workers such as a rep of the Aviva workers, a cleaner affected by the change to the JLC rates and a community activist. This shift to hearing the voices of the normally voiceless is also very positive.

At the end of the DCTU march, an assembly will be held for all those present. This will be organised by the Alliance Against Austerity, a broad grouping composed of union activists, community activists and left political organisations. At the assembly there will be a space for march participants to have their say in an open mike that is organised through a facilitator. If there are big numbers the assembly will break into smaller groups and a facilitator will help each one to organise the discussion.

In Cork the Enough campaign  and other groupings have resolved to support this March and is organising transport in the form of a bus to leave Cork Saturday morning at 9am and is inviting all those opposed to ongoing cutbacks to our services and living standards to resist and show the powerful in this country that we have had enough.

Please confirm if you would like to travel to the Demonstration by early next week.
