RICHARD BOYD BARRETT TD to speak in Cork
People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd Barrett will speak at a Public Meeting in Cork on Monday May 20th at The Gresham Metropole Hotel, MacCurtain Street at 8pm.
“The government that promised us a democratic revolution are in fact engaged in an undemocratic counter-revolution. They are shredding democracy in order to impose the diktat of the Troika and the financial markets while protecting the super-wealthy by attacking the living standards of ordinary people. This has to stop- there has to be a people's revolt against the property tax.”... Richard Boyd Barrett TD.
All across Europe the battle-lines are being drawn. On one side stand the markets, the banks and their servants in the political establishment. On the others side are those of us that fall victim to the axe, who suffer under the cuts, who pay for the mistakes of others and who are losing their voice. Who will pay for the banker's crisis? The bankers themselves or the vast majority of us, who had nothing to do with their gambling debts?
In Ireland we are still, after four years of harsh budgets, paying for the bankers crimes while they get away with earning the likes of €800,000 a year.
Despite resistance, voices of opposition are taken out of the mainstream media and press. They maintain a conspiracy of silence around any mentions of alternatives to austerity.
How can we bring about a real democratic revolution in this country? Can we have democracy in society at large, in our unions, in our workplaces? How can we best organise to fight back?
