Need help! ETCD multi-region: High latency observed when leader moved to region where my client is not deployed

Hi

Setup:
We have 5 node cluster spanned across two datacenters.
DC 1:
3 nodes

DC 2:
2 nodes

My client is also deployed in DC 1.

Issue Observed:
If leader node is in DC 1 where my client is deployed our latency stays ~12 ms (write request). And as soon as leader moves to DC 2 latency jumps to ~200 ms and continues at this state. Although network latency rtt between these two DCs is 20ms.

Can anybody help or guide on pointing out issue with this setup or is that expected?
