I have tried installing Corel Suite 8 on two different machines. I have had
to install them by sharing a CD-ROM on another computer (since the PC's I'm
installing on don't have one) and browsing through Network Neighbourhood
(Windows 98) and accessing the CD that way.

Ok, here's the problem! I can copy all the files, etc., but when it trys to
configure the systems it hangs when it gets to configuring the viewers
component. The files are all vs*.dll. It just sits there and eventually
stops responding. And if I try to re-install it hangs there again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ryan.

I know the Windows/Temp directories are clean.
The computers without CD-ROM's are Win 98.
I'll try copying the CD's contents to the HDD, but that isn't the best
solution since many of our computers don't have CD-ROM's and copying the
entire CD will just take a lot more time (which I never seem to have :-) ).
And installing it across the network is slow enought as it is!
Thanks for the help though Xavier.
Ryan.

Have you tried cleaning the CD?

What version is it you are trying to install? (Check VOLINFO.TXT on the
CD itself.)

What type of network cards do you use? What video cards?

Some excellent suggestions -- outside of the above issues -- are in the
article at http://kb.corel.com/kbdocs/CWS8032/WP80WIN/WP80WIN_12114.htm

Also, I would STRONGLY recommend you map a drive to the CD rather than
browsing to it; it will run the install faster & may avoid the lockup
entirely.

1. CD is clean. (version 8.00)
2. We use all 3COM NICS. And this machine has an ATI Rage Pro 128
(latest drivers)
3. And I did as you suggested and mapped to the CD-ROM and it gets to the
exact same spot each time and hangs.
After all the files have been copied and it starts to configure the
system and hangs when it gets to the viewers component and always on the
same file...........vsrfx.dll.....it just sits there and eventually stops
responding.

Copy the contents of the CD to the hard drive and then run the installation from
there

It's VERY important to know what *exact* version this is; as mentioned,
please check the VOLINFO.TXT file on the CD and note that number back to
this thread.
