Hey all, I am not a graphic artist, but I have finally given
up trying to figure out on my own why I can't achieve what
shouldn't be rocket science, and appeal to the group to set
me free and give me an answer :)

I have a logo ("logo" for now) that the company has released
in the following formats:
logo.tif
logo.bmp
logo.gif
logo.jpg
It's been released in both a color and a b/w version, and
sits on a white background.

HERE'S THE QUESTION:
When I work with this logo, I want to be able to drop it
over other graphics WITHOUT the accursed white-rectangular
background that surrounds it showing up. Aaaaargh, this has
been dogging me for years! Up to now I've gotten around it
by merging the bitmap over whatever bitmap I'm wanted it to
sit on top of, filling the dread white with the color of its
merge partner. That works . . . until the merge is over a
design. And now I've hit the wall.

PROGRAMS I HAVE IN MY POSSESSION:
Metafile Editor
Micrografx
Adobe Photoshop Lite
Corel Print Office
Thumbs+ (powerful conversion utilities)
+ a coupla assorted other (bundled, usually) cheapies
capable of limited effects.

WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS:
• convert (any) of the original files into a format(s) that
a layperson such as myself could quickly edit, if necessary,
to ditch the area surrounding the logo (mercifully contained
in one continuous shape, btw) once and for all; or
• if technically impossible with the bundled/shareware
software I currently own, at least get the logo into some
kind of shape that METAFILE EDITOR will accept its Paste --
it won't now, in any of the above formats -- tidy it up, and
save the accursed thing in the ~.wmf format that I am so
comfortable with because of its "Connect The Dots"
simplicity.

Please, anyone, give it to me straight: Am I redrawing this
in Metafile Editor (groan)? You can't imagine how worried I
am that I might have to REDRAW it, without even a crude
outline. I once had to draw a stick figure that my friend
asked cheerfully, "Do I view it this way?" turning the paper
around, adding "- are they arrows?." I cannot conceive of a
shape unless I am tracing it.

I'm too poor right now or I'd hire someone to do this for
me. Please help! And thank you from the bottom of my heart
everyone . . .

Angel
