Colour / cloning question

I have a frontal portrait, which is lit from one side and is so bright, the
image just fades into white and there's no definable edge.

Manually drawing the face in again is out of the question, I'm simply not
that good. However, I was wondering if it's possible to clone just the
colour / hue / lightness from the left onto the right. But also, mirror the
cloning, so as I move the cursor to the right, the reference point moves to
the left and vice versa.

Any help would be much appreciated.
