You certainly didn't do yourself any favor by setting up the shot as
you did. What you should have done was to place the handbag on a base
and background that contrast sharply with the bag's color. In this
case, even a black background would have been better than the very pale
tones of the tablecloth and the white plastic sheet that you used.

My advice: reshoot the handbag and then use the magic wand to select
out the background colors. It will probably take less time than
fooling around with what you have.

u mean I should "strong" red or green or blue as backdrop so that I use
"magic wand"
the rest of the "backdrop" can be taken out easily.

I have tried the photoshop 5.x version and used the "magic wand" and then
the "help menu" to "re-create--- I do not know the correct word for this
task", I have tried 3 alternatives according to help menu with
"transparent". I was not successful.

Please use "plain non-artistic or simple artist term" to explain to me .
Step by step. Thanks.

You have to be careful when using a strongly colored background to make
sure that the background itself doesn't reflect its color onto the
subject and thereby "contaminating" it. All you need is a decent
contrast. Your pale beige, almost white, handbag is just too similar to
the colors of the tablecloth and backgrounds you chose for the magic
wand to make a good discrimination between what is subject and what is
background. In Photoshop, using the magic wand, you would adjust the
wand's "tolerance" setting by trial and error, and there will be one
that will very precisely select all the background, but none of the
handbag. Once you get a magic wand that does this, then you click on
the background to select a contiguous portion, then use the
"select>similar" command to expand the selection to include all parts
of the background (or just hold down the shift key and click on the
other pieces of background until it is all selected). Then you can use
the "cut" command to remove the background, leaving only the handbag on
a transparent background (you should see a colored checkerboard where
there used to be a background) or use "select>invert" to change the
selection from background to handbag, and then use "cut" and then
"paste" to put the handbag into another picture.

I'm sure other high-end brands of picture editors have similar
capabilities.

I used magic wand, point and then delete, use the point move the middle
object to the right a bit. the left top corner is totally transparent.

why in photo 5.0 I can make the first two digital pics with the background
is transparent and the middle object is the hand bag.

and then I save the file as *.jpg.

in PSP 7.0, I open the same picture, why the picture has "complete white
background" ?
