Hi
I notice Photoshop users have a technique named Contrast Mask for bringing
out shadow detail in images.

Here is one such link.

http://cs.uhh.hawaii.edu/~jeschke/photography/articles/gimp/ContrastMask/

Is there anything similar in Photopaint (I'm still on 7)

Thanks

Great technique!!! Just used it in Corel 9 with no problems at all.

1. Mask the entire image (later, when you feel like being clever, you can
mask only those areas you want to affect)
2. Press CTRL-UpArrow (This will create a new layer from your mask).
3. Open the Layers docker (CTRL-F7)
4. Make sure the new layer (the one at the top) is selected. Choose
Image/Adjust/Desaturate
5. Choose Image/Transform/Invert (you can click the eye beside the lower
layer to make it disappear and see that your transformations are working)
6. From the drop down list at the top of the Layers docker choose Overlay
7. Choose Objects/Combine all and you're done.

Didn't notice any particular improvement using the Gaussian Blur mentioned
in the article but you can try it out for yourself. Don't forget to mess
around with the opacity slider in the Layers docker to modify the effect.
