Hi all -

Can anyone tell me how to get Btrieve ODBC drivers working with Pdox 8
or Pdox 5?

I think I have it set up correctly in both the BDE Administrator,
however I can not figure out how to make it connect.

With Pdox 5 I get "Bad Options".

I have to access an accounting database. They are using Btrieve .ddf
files. Is there an FAQ somewhere?

Thanks in advance for your help.

First question, WHOSE driver? Intersolv, or Pervasive?

Second, do you have ALL of the client files? Pervasive have a diagnostic
called "SmartScout" you can download and check your Btrieve client setup.

Third, if all confirms okay, then just try open a table, then try to find
the ODBC alias you defined.

Kasey,

Thank you for your quick response. The driver is from intersolv. I
think it came with win95, or with Corel Office.

It appears as: INTERSOLV 3.00 32-BIT Btrieve (*.dta) in the ODBC
Administrators Drivers window, I do not have any drivers in the User
Data Sources or the system DSN window.

In the BDE Administrator, Configuration|Drivers|ODBC|INTERSOLV 3.00
32-BIT Btrieve Definition panel has all default values, except for the
following fields which are blank: Driver Flags, Database Name, ODBC DSN,
Schema Cache, SqlQueryMode, and User Name. It displays:
Version: 4.5
Type: Server
DLL: IDODBC01.DLL
DLL32: IDODBC32.DLL

BDE AdministratorVersion: 5.01

In Paradox 8, when I try to connect I get: "Invalid Configuration
Parameters.
==
In the 16-Bit world: The ODBC Manager shows:
Pac_Files (Btrieve Files (file.ddf))
Pac_Data (Btrieve Data (file.ddf))
in the Data Sources (Driver) window.
This is a Microsoft driver (v 1.01.1928): SIMBA.DLL.

With the IDAPI (v2.0) Configuration Utility:

I added a new driver: 'ODBC_Pac_F'
Version: 1.0
Type: Server
DLL: IDODBC01.DLL
ODBC Driver: Btrieve Files (file.ddf)
Driver Flags, User Name,SqlQueryMode, SqlPassThruMode are blank
Open Mode: Read/Write
Schema Cache Size: 8
LangDriver: 'ascii' ANSI

I also created a driver 'ODBC_Pac_D' with the same parameters except
ODBC Driver: Btrieve Data (file.ddf)

I then created two alias (PacFiles and PacData) which correspond to the
above.

I next went into PFW v5.0 and attempted to connect and received the
following:
[Microsoft][ODBC Single-Tier Driver][ODBC File Library]Win.ini [btrieve]
options wrong.
===

Any thoughts that you have would be greatfully appreciated.

Regards,
Dan

Sounds like your setup is right, at least on the software part, so you're
probably missing the 32-bit client files. I don't have an exact list, but
try Pervasive's SmartScout any way.
