can't launch Pdox8

I have a new computer with Vista Home Basic opSys .

Initially I installed WPOS 8 Pro . Everything worked .

Then I made the mistake of trying to install WPO 11 .
It would not install & when I attempted to uninstall that would
not work either .

Eventually I installed a WPOS 12 productivity pack .
I want to use the QP12 & the old version of
paradox (8) .

But I should have read the help file that said to install WPO12 to
the default DIR (different from WPO8 Dir) .

When I tried to launch Pdox8 , got an error :

" could not initlz BDE. Network initlze failed
C:\pdoxusrs.net
cannot access network lock file
continue with network disabled ? "
[here a yes or no response produces the same result ]
could not initlz BDE.
Network initlz failed .
C:\pdoxusrs.net

At this point I uninstalled both Corel suites .
I then reinstalled WPO8 .
During the reinstall I got the following errors :

" exception EDBEngineError in module GXENGINE.DLL
at 00046296 .
An error occurred while attempting to initlz the
Borland Database Engine (errror $3E06)

Runtime error 217 at 0004F32E .

Pdox8 still does not launch : err

" could not initlz BDE .:
cannot find language driver . "

Now it says "cannot load language driver . "

Another symptom :
\tools\Database Engine 4.0
clicking this gets the following err :
" exception EDBEngineError in module bdeAdmin.exe at 000533F2
An error occurred while attempting to initlz the
Borland Database Engine (errror $3E06)

Should I try an updated version of BDE ?
Is it time to give up & get WPSuite X3 Pro ?
Any suggestions ?
