Could not initialise IDAPI - help

I have recently re-installed the display driver and changed the
display resolution on my monitor (to 800x600) following a
registry problem which Windows reported.

Now I can't open Paradox v.5 for Windows due to the error message
listed in the header. I also get a message that 'Private
directory is invalid or undefined. Using temp. dir. instead'. (I
know v.5 is old but I like it)

I have tried the Idapi Config. Utility, but it reports 'System
config. file not found' and ALL the dialog boxes for Drivers,
Aliases, System etc. are empty.

I have looked in the c:\office\shared and c:\Pdoxwin folders and
everything seems to be present.
Paradox was previously working very well and now I am at a loss
to know what to do, or which files to re-install off my program
disks. I run Win98 with 128Mb RAM and plenty of HDD space.

Help would be appreciated.
