Hello ParaDocs,

Problem:
Installing PDX7-32 Runtime under Windows NT allows it to run
only for the user under whose Login it was installed.

For this customer each computer is used by approx. 20 different
users, each with his/her own login.

Question:
How to install, so I don't have to log in for each user and
then have to install the 32Bit Runtime again....
(20 PCs x 20 Users ----> 400 installations?)

Greetings and TIA

Fridolin

Fridolin,

Install as administrator. Then move the startup icon to the all users
desktop and the RT menu startup to the all users menu. That should be
all it takes. Of course the users have to have sufficient permissions in
the areas that RT is set to run (full rights the the private dir which
should be in an area common to all users of the WS, etc.)

Dennis,

thanks for your speedy reply.

It doesn't solve the problem. Even if the user has full admin
rights still no go.

The error message coming up says:

"Initialization of D:\Programme\Borland\....\PRSRV32.DLL failed"

Anyone any ideas on this one?

TIA

You reinstalled as an administrator and then tried to run as a user (a
different one) who also has admin rights and you got this error?

Can the program start from the account that it was installed from? Was
the user "Upgraded" to an admin account? (this does not always confer
admin permissions on all disks if you do it that way so you may have to
ensure they actually have full admin rights on D:)

Yes. However the error message I have since the very beginning, just
forgot to mention it in the first posting.

Once runtime for a user is installed, it can be removed via uninstall
then reinstalled for another user. It will still work for the previous
user.

So I tried the following:

1. I cleaned the registry of all Borland Paradox and Runtime entries
then rebooted
2. reinstalled Runtime as Admin with all rights

3. Then tried the following:
Had the runtime during the very first attempt installed for one
additional user.
After the reg.cleaning and reinstalling it worked for this user
like a charm but for no others, with or without full rights to
all Borland related directories...

Any more hints ?

TIA

Hmmm... I'm pretty much out of ideas. When we have done this this is how we
did it.

Log on in an admin account (not admin but an account created with full admin
rights. The difference should not be critical but might be.)

Install runtime (we have done this on NT4 with SP2, 3 and 4 and it was the
same for each SP).

Reboot. Go in with same account.

Start PRT. It should run fine.

Create a desktop icon in the All users desktop in WinNT\Profiles

Adjust the startup line of the the icon (adding -p, -c and -q parameters)

Log off. Log on as a user with full rights to the priv directory. If it
starts it will for everyone. If not, go in to the security tab of the icon
(you have to log back on as the admin account you were before first) and
adjust the security under permissions as needed.

That is all we have ever had to do. Sorry if this does not get to the cause
of your problem.

Dennis,

thanks for your input. Still no go!

Did each step as you said, nada, tried several time.

Searched the usual ways via Internet but no results.

Well maybe the English Runtime does it OK but with the
German one simply no luck.

Anyone else out there with ideas?

Greetings and TIA

For what I understand, if you double-click on Pdxrwn32.exe from Explorer
nothing happens?
