I recently did a clean install of Win 98 SE and loaded up something new
that installed the BDE Version 5.01. I then re-installed Paradox 7
which insisted the old BDE Configuration Utility Version 3.0 be
installed along with it. I expected the Version 3 to overwrite the
Version 5 since it was installed last. However, both BDE's seem to be
"here" as I can start them both up from the start menu.

Can anyone tell me if both versions could be in use (installed in the
same directory, I'm quite sure) ? Also, is there any way to determine
which one Pdx 7 is using? I assume I should try to get rid of the older
version (and, if so, how?)...or would that possibly just leave me in a
bigger mess?

I doubt you have 2 versions installed. More likely you have two shortcuts to
the BDE admin manager. You will need to look for the idapi dll's and see if
you have 2 separate sets. Check for idapi32.dll. When you find it check the
properties to see what version is installed. You will need the newer of your
versions since the original IDAPI that came with P7 does not understand
fat32.
