I am doing some research related to printing issues (printing & page
setup) for Paradox 9.0. Does anybody here have problems / complaints /
improvements that they would like to explain to me? Any help would be
appreciated.

Thanks,

There's lots of things that work in one service pack that won't work in
another (and vice versa), so if you're using a lot of printer functions, you
can upgrade (or downgrade) to a different service pack to fix one problem,
only to have it break another. Also, lots of problems can be fixed by
fiddling with various settings, so several of the things on this list can be
worked around, and some of these are supposed to be fixed in service pack 4.
I can't upgrade to service pack 4 since there isn't a Runtime version.
Anyway:

o Switching between portrait and landscape isn't reliable

o Switching into and out of duplex mode isn't reliable (service pack 3)

o clipToWidth turned off by default (service pack 3)

o Breakable property doesn't seem to always turn off in report bands

o Report band footers sometimes repeat on the next page when the band ends
up near the bottom of a page

More as I think of it...

Here are some of my observations:

V9 Service Pack 3 on Win2000 Workstations and NT on Server.

Rewrote all print code to use ReportPrintInfo approach. The main printer is HP
4050N. No problems setting legal size or setting landscape orientation.

Then I went to another new installation. 2 new Win2000 workstations, several
NT Workstations, several Win98. LJ1100, HP Inkjet ??and a Minolta Digital
Copier Printer. What a disaster. I had installed V7 a couple of months ago.
Instead of trying to find the Compatablility Software, I decided to use V9 on
all machines.

V7 prints fine to all printers from the NT and 98 machines. V9 from all
machines, refuses to set legal paper size on any printer. V9 sets landscape on
the Digital Printer but not on the LJ 1100.

I just can't understand how V7 worked fine and then V8 refused to print
landscape, and now V9 if loaded with incompatability relative to papersize and
orientation.

Sure would like to see it fixed. I have 10 installations using V7 with no
issues. 2 using Win2000 and V9. One has problems, one OK.

Does Service Pack 4 address any of these issues?

If you do a search on printing problems in the P9 group or at deja.com you
should find yourself buried in material. Have fun sifting...
