Painter 6 - Using original luminance to create duotone effects?

In Chapter 7 of the User Guide - Customizing Brushes - there is a
section that discusses "Setting Expression Controls". In the section
referring to the "color" controller in the Expression section of the
Brush Controls palette it states that the Color brush feature
determines where CP should use the primary or secondary color. It goes
on to say that "you can create a duotone effect by setting color to
Original Luminance and painting into a clone. The color of the brush
is determined by the light and dark areas of the source."

The problem is that you CAN'T set "color" to Original Luminance in the
Expression section. So what is this section in the user guide
referring to & how do you do this?
