I have a CD with a folder named Linux. Within the folder I have the
1.2 version of Corel Linux bearing the filename

corellinux-oc_1.2.iso

I would really like the get my feet wet and install Linux in an open
partition I have a 1Gig. However, I am unable to adjust my BIOS so
that it boots from the CD ROM. Actually I can adjust my BIOS, but it
does not pick up the iso file.

I have noted that there are various tools which allow the creation of
a boot floppy. I downloaded to these programs about it was not able
to make it work. I seem to need the "tools" set. I spent at least
two hours looking around for some combination that would work for me
in various FTP sites but came up empty.

I know somebody out there has a three sentence answer for this right?
Help man in need! I work so hard, but catch the devil everywhere I
go! I'm afraid I'm going to spend hours and hours trying to find the
answer using search engines.

My e-mail is jaz...@w-link.net

Thank you,
Mike

Currently, you have an iso file - a cd image. You'll first need to
create an installation cd. See:

http://linux.corel.com/support/pdfs/Creating_a_Corel_LINUX_Installation_C
D.pdf

or

http://linux.corel.com/support/html/9300.htm

Then when you put the cd into you computer execute autorun.exe (assuming
that it doesn't run automatically). From here you'll be able to make a
boot disk effortlessly.

Thank Mr. Hirji,

I know it can be kind of tiresome to answer these newbie questions so
I appreciate your help. Actually I already have the ISO file burned
onto the CD location (M:/Linux/corellinux-oc_1.2.iso).

However it is contained within a folder titled Linux and not contained
in the uppermost level.. unfortunately I do not have access to a
rewritable CD ROM. I obtained the CD from my brother. Perhaps there
is a way of utilizing my CD by means of a boot floppy? I attempted to
create a boot floppy but this failed. I use the rawrite program.

of course it might be the best course of action for me to simply order
the CD. (forgive my punctuation -- I'm using some voice recognition
software and not bothering to make it 100 percent accurate).

Thanks again, Mike

No problem. I value usenet for help, so I try to reply whenever I have
the time.

You can't actually just burn the iso file onto the cd. The iso file is a
cd image. You have to select an option on you cd burner called "Create
cd from image file" or something to that effect. When you do this,
you'll end up with 6 folders (Rr_moved, Boot, Dists, Live, Install,
Tools) as well as 6 files (Volinfo.txt, Readme.txt, Autorun.exe,
Autorun.ico, Autorun.inf, Bb.bat). The iso file itself is completely
unuseable.

Once you've done this, then run Autorun.exe, hit next, and you'll be able
to make a boot floppy.

Hope this makes sense!
