I have installed the Corel Linux and try to connect to the Internet.
I use a 56 modem over the telephone line.
Dialling 123 (UK) gives me the spoken time.
When I try to connect to one of my ISP's I have the following logged
messages:
ATZ
OK
ATM1l1
OK
ATDT 13208454550370
CONNECT 46666/42BIS
Followed by error message:
The ppp daemon died unexpectedly.
Under details: The logfile could not be opened.
This is a familiar error and FAQ advises to 'comment out the lines that
contain "auth" and "lock" ' in the /etc/ppp/options file, by placing a '#'
in
front of them.
I did this but the situation did not change.
The Corel Linux guide suggested to empty the options file or to leave it out
altogether. I tried these as well. The same errors occurred.
My 2 ISPs do not support Linux but they have no specific requirements for
logging on.
I run corel linux by itself with 32 RAM and 3 GB HD memory.
Are any other solutions known to work in this case?
