I'm having great fun with Photo-Paint 7+ from the Graphics Pack II, and I
think it's an excellent program, but how do I make it stop resetting the
file types of images? These types: pcx gif jpg tif pcd cpt, all show in
Explorer as "Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7.0 image". This defeats the purpose of
listing the file type. I'd rather have a gif described as "GIF" and a
jpg as "JPG", and so on. And, of course, trying to create a new type
GIF, for example, results in an error message: "this type is already in
use by CorelPhotoPaint.Image.7".

I've tried changing the description to "image", but the next time I boot
up it says "Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7.0 image" again.

Is there any way to turn off this behavior?

Thanx kindly

Pete,

The file type hasn't changed. It's still a gif or a jpg image. What *has
changed is the association. When the type says PhotoPaint image - it
means that's the program that is supposed to open to edit that image
type.

If you want to change the association so the file is opened by another
editor you need to find the file-type in Explorer - you need to highlight
the file by clicking on it once with the left mouse button. Then, hold
down the shift key and and right click on the selected file. Choose 'open
with' and select another program to use to edit this image type. Be sure
there is a check in the box that says 'Always use this program to open
this type of file.'

Hope this helps.

Barb

Hi, Barb. Thanks for the quick response.

I've gotten around it by deleting the "PhotoPaint 7.0 image" type
and creating new types GIF, JPG, etc., all associated with Photo-Paint.
