What would be the recommendations in fonts for producing
some small text (for a button in a web page) say 125 pixels
by 30 pixels that remains sharp even though it is so small?

Sorry to recommend Micorsoft but I find MS Trebuchet quite good. I htink
it's installed with IE5 but you can download it from
www.microsoft.com/typography .
