I'm trying to import very high resolution graphics (scanned USGS
topographic maps) to use in poster map layouts. I have tried importing
JPG's, TIF's, GIF's, EPS. All cause my CDR file to expand to unmanagable
sizes. The import itself takes a very long time also (especially for the
EPS). I have been sticking with JPG for my imports up to now as my
export software (ArcView GIS) performs this export with the least
friction. The EPS format would be ideal as it maintains full map
resolution, but again, the import to my CDR is very painfull.
So, what is the most efficient method to import a high resolution
graphic into a drawing?
Also, once I get a JPG or TIF into my drawing, I can covert it to a
bitmap, but what does this mean. I figured it would make my file smaller
and keep CorelDRAW happier because it converted it to some native
format. What are the advantages/disadvantages of converting graphics to
bitmaps in a drawing?
Info on my computer:
PIII 450
512MB RAM
Windows NT 4
CorelDRAW 7 Select Edition
Thanks in advance,
Clay

Import it as a linked image. This way DRAW will represent the image using a
low resolution thumbnail, but will use the original file while printing.
Now, what resolution are you using in your images? Are they going to be
printed using a press, a printer, or a plotter?

I use linked images, but they don't accept .cpt files (really dumb), and
when I export its the low res image that gets exported. So you have to
be carefull.
