I recieved two files by e-mail that end with .cdr and I can not open them.
I bought & installed Corel Draw 8 and I still can't open them. I tried
everything...deleted temporary files, SCANDISK (no bad sectors), looked for
a back-up file (there was none), and even defragmented my hard drive...and
nothing works.
The error message reads: This program has performed an illegal operation
and will shut down. If problem continues, contact program vender...CDRCONV
caused an invalid page fault in module CDRCONV.EXE at 0137:005cc76d.
Maybe I am using the wrong program to open the *.cdr file, but this is the
only one that does anything. What can I do...I really need to open these
two files.

Lori,

what version is inside files you receive?
(look inside with NC or FAR file managers)
You should find something like this:

RIFF CDR8vrsn DISP,(.......
^^^^^^^
If there is something else, your files may be corrupted.
What version of CorelDraw you use (8.369 is current)?

Can you e-mail your files to me in ZIP file
(not more then 800K please)?

Email can sometimes chew up a file if the connection is weak or interfered with. Can
the person send you the file again? Also, to see if it's the file or your system, can
you send it back to the person who sent it to you to see if it opens on their machine?
- or see if Serge can open it.

before transfering binary files (like graphic files) over the internet,
one should convert them to ASCII data by compressing them into a file
like Zip or BinHex depending on your platform. Always works for me and
makes for faster transfers too.
