Dear all,

I have just replaced my Laptop with a new one and it will not let me
install Paradox 7.0 NT version onto the system. The error message is:
Internal Error: -4.
You need at least 1144 KB to copy the installation files to C:\temp.
Free some space or set the TEMP environment variable to another drive.
Unable to start installation.

The machine is a Compaq E500 with 5Gig on the C drive running NT4 with
3.7GB currently free. Any and all help appreciated. I am an
administrator and have full permissions.

I think the installer has a problem with drives that have too much free
space on them, try filling up the hard drive with some temporary files so
you only have less than 2 gigs, install pdox and then delete the temp
files. Hope this helps

Martin,

That is one possibility. Also it is likely he has NTFS. If so he will need to
point the tmp and temp environment variables to areas that are FAT formatted.
This can be a zip drive, a separate partition on the drive or a FAT location
on a network. If they are smaller than the 2GB limit he will not need to
worry about that issue.

Don't forget to set the variables back when done. Also realize you have to
have admin rights and that you should install under the user account that
will most often use it since experts etc. will not be available to the other
accounts without registry edits.

"You need at least 1144 KB to copy the installation files to C:\temp."

Seems like a floppy would have enough room as well. Might be a bit slow....

Thanks to Martin, Dennis and Wayne. Bloody thing worked as soon as the
hard drive got below 2 GIG in NTFS NT4.
Cheers..

You have the original version Pdox 7 which had an installer problem when free
space was over 2 gig. You can set the Windows Temp directory to a floppy for
the install or fill up some of that disk space
