Pervasive no longer supports btrieve versions earlier than Pervasive SQL 7.
I was informed by their tech support that ODBC drivers for earlier versions
were not available from them. I'm am, therefore, looking for any freely
distributable 32-bit ODBC drivers for Btrieve.
Thanks, Mark

Hmmm. You may want to check with Merant (http://www.merant.com), who make many
different connectivity drivers. I think their ODBC Connect 3.6 package contains
a BTrieve driver - it doesn't list it on the database list, but I found a
reference to it in a tech doc on their site. You may want to drop them a line
directly.

That is correct... If I remember correctly, the 2.04's only work if
there's an
existing Btrieve client installed and configured correctly. It will NOT
work
without it. I remember getting that to work on my old work location, but
I
no longer work there, so, well... :-/

Thanks for the tip on Merant. I have installed the driver. Do you know if
it is required to have a local Btrieve engine installed on the client
machine. My machine does, so it's not the best test environment for this.
Most or all of the Pervasive drivers require the local engine be available.
I have a call in to Merant eval support, but no luck so far.

You will most likely need to install the btrieve driver on every computer
that will be accessing the btrieve tables and configue BDE to read them. I
have bought 5 single user copies that are used for excel reports that are
linked to our MRP package. I also use my copy to link to the btrieve files
through Paradox. It's been awhile since I set-up my BDE for reading btrieve
files so I will have to play with it to know exactly what I did to set it
up. One thing you might consider and although I havent completed this
program yet is to have paradox on a timed function that converts your
btrieve files to paradox files through tcursors. You could have a server
program set up that could refresh the paradox tables on a timed interval or
use a button to update at your leisure. The advantage I found at doing this
is when the user accesses the information it must faster than using the
btrieve driver. I'll keep in touch with you and keep you updated.

Dave.
