I tried to use the following statement
execute("dir")
but get an 'error occured trying to execute program'
execute("dir")

The execute command documentation indicates that a dos command or program can
be launched with this command.

You need to be running in a DOS enviroment to execute that command. Try running
the Command.com and sending it a batch command to run.
