Changing the insertion point cursor

The blinking vertical bar often gets lost, for example if the
insertion point is at an upper case 'D'.
insertion point is at an upper case 'D'.
I can't find how to change it - can find the stuff for the shadow
cursor but I don't use one of those.
I can't believe that WP doesn't provide a method although why would it
choose such an ambiguous shape in the first place - and not use
colour?
