WP 12 Tables freeze

Windows XP 3/Wordperfect 12
Problem: WP12 freezes when attempting to edit a "Tables only" document.
Opened and restored a backup copy of the same Table document created in
early 2010 which was incorrupt & functioning well at the time, presently
freezes, not on opening the file but on any attempt to edit it. All other
types of WP12 formatted documents function perfectly. Creating new Table
documents from scratch eventually freeze during creation. Please help.
