For some reason, the program won't allow me to choose one of the other
options. I make the change and hit "OK" but it immediately reverts to
the Manual setting.
I'm still open to suggestions.
Incidentally, I've been a user of WordPerfect since the mid-80s. In
those days of DOS operation, the program was notable for its
reliability. I moved to the WP8 suite and never could achieve
reliable performance -- it was flakey no matter what patches were
applied. Finally bought an OEM version of X3 and hoped that going to
a 32-bit release would cure its ills -- which it did, mostly. But
this printing glitch seems to be conspiring to send me permanently to
Word 2007 or Open Office, both of which I have. I'll miss "reveal
codes".

A poster there suggested editing the registry entry
(Start/Run/regedit.exe)
HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\SOFTWARE\COREL\PRINTENGINE\13
and change it to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\SOFTWARE\COREL\PRINTENGINE\13OLD
Then exit from regedit.exe.
That seems to do the trick. The next time I do a printout, the
program creates a new registry entry for ...\13 and everything works.
The print dialogue in WP shows the correct "Auto Select" now. I've
deleted the ...\13old registry entry.
Now, if it hasn't messed up any other printing capabilities, I'll be
a happy camper.
