Another X3 printing problem

I see that several posters are having problems with X3 printing.
Me too.
I have a Brother laser hooked up to an Ethernet port on my router, and
a desktop computer running Windows XP, SP3. If I try to print from WP
X3, the program goes through all the motions, the printer wakes up,
and then it grinds to a halt with an error light showing.
It's baffling because Quattro Pro (in the same X3 release) prints
without difficulty, as does everything else, including Word 2007,
Firefox, Thunderbird, even an ancient copy of Visual dBase -- and that
includes printing sent over
the wireless network from a laptop.
I've tried repairing the X3 installation, and, when that didn't work,
removed the entire suite and re-installed.
Any suggestions? Any other group I should be reading for WordPerfect
X3 info?

Since I wrote earlier about my WP X3 printing problem, I've
discovered that the error condition is caused by the print driver
selecting Manual operation, rather than Auto Select -- but only in
WordPerfect, not in Quattro Pro. If I just shove a sheet of paper in
the manual feed slot, printing in WP proceeds normally.

For some reason, the program won't allow me to choose one of the other
options. I make the change and hit "OK" but it immediately reverts to
the Manual setting.

I'm still open to suggestions.

Incidentally, I've been a user of WordPerfect since the mid-80s. In
those days of DOS operation, the program was notable for its
reliability. I moved to the WP8 suite and never could achieve
reliable performance -- it was flakey no matter what patches were
applied. Finally bought an OEM version of X3 and hoped that going to
a 32-bit release would cure its ills -- which it did, mostly. But
this printing glitch seems to be conspiring to send me permanently to
Word 2007 or Open Office, both of which I have. I'll miss "reveal
codes".

In case anyone is reading this group, and having problems printing
similar to the ones I described in previous messages, I appear to
have found the answer -- on a tech forum.

A poster there suggested editing the registry entry
(Start/Run/regedit.exe)

HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\SOFTWARE\COREL\PRINTENGINE\13

and change it to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\SOFTWARE\COREL\PRINTENGINE\13OLD

Then exit from regedit.exe.

That seems to do the trick. The next time I do a printout, the
program creates a new registry entry for ...\13 and everything works.
The print dialogue in WP shows the correct "Auto Select" now. I've
deleted the ...\13old registry entry.

Now, if it hasn't messed up any other printing capabilities, I'll be
a happy camper.
