Now, WordPerfect is mostly useless. Typically, opening a file causes WP
to freeze. Sometimes, after using wplook (no corruption found, but
undo removed), I can get the file to open but trying to print causes WP
to freeze, or printserver to freeze.
I assume that the uninstall was not done completely. What should I do?
I still have WP 10 and can try to go back to it if needed.
In reading your post, I think I see some likely causes of your problems.
Could you please tell us exactly the sequence that your two WordPerfect
products were installed on your computer? Was the Dell Procuctivity Pack
pre-installed?
What do you mean by "upgraded the full version 10 suite with the new WP
and QP 11"? Those two products are separate. One does not upgrade the
other. Did you try to install them in the same directory?
An aside thought here. Your full version of WP10 is a more desirable
product than the Productivity Pack WP11 "lite". It is a very stable
program if updated with ServicePack4 [build 10.0.0.990]. I'd be hard
pressed to think of a reason to use your WP11.

WP/QP version 11 came preinstalled on the computer. I custom installed
the rest of the suite from version 10, but not WP & QP. The version 10
and version 11 installations are in separate folders.
My version 10 is the "academic" version, which does not have the file
previewer (neither does version 11).
I also have versions 8 and 6; these are not installed on the computer.

I mispoke.
When an earlier version is installed after a later, it is usual to Repair
the later. Do you have on a Dell disk the *.msp installer file? - likely,
not.-(}

I gave up on WordPerfect 11, uninstalled it, and installed all the
components from WordPerfect 10. Now I am worse off -- WordPerfect 10
freezes at the splash screen, never gets to the document page.
I'm using Windows XP home and a computer with 3 GHz. Intel processor, 1
GB DDRAM.
Does this mean that I now have to switch to MS Word? It still works.
Try the easy fix first, though I am none too hopeful.
You could install a non-existent simple printer on LPT1:. The Apple
LaserWriter fits the bill. Of course you would not print a test page.

The latest WP11 build is 305.
When you get that, remove your WPWin 11 and 10 installations and install
the new CD.

Some Corel products have not been installed. Examples are the Font
Navigator program and the Corel Photo House ver. 1.1.
I have not erased any data folders for WP, Draw, address book, calendar,
etc. This includes any setup info files that pertain to WP and the other
Corel products (I notice that when WP is reinstalled, the printer info
and the custom toolbars are preserved for the new install.)
If I delete all the Corel registry folders using regedit, will any of
the data be lost?
So far, I have repaired the Windows XP Home OS and have used a
third-party registry cleaner. These have not improved the WP problem.
There are some registry folder with ambiguous names that might or might
not be Corel folders. Example: in Hkey_Classes_Root, there are several
with names similar to "CorRegistration.Corfltr" or
CorRegistration.CorIESecurityManager". These folders are repeated
twice. Are these Corel folders?
I don't know about those similar sounding registry entries. Leave them
alone.
The consequence of this is that the default template for WP (wp11??.wpt)
will not be overwritten, so as to not destroy and customization.
If - as does not seem likely - the template is faulty, the fault will thus
persist. However, if this does occur, you can anyway delete the file: WP
creates a new default template on its next launch, so that the fault is
removed.
I uninstalled all Corel products from my computer, deleted all
registration keys in the registry that referred to any Corel product,
and deleted all data and program folders associated with any Corel
product. I also have repaired the OS. And, per Corel knowledge base, I
ensured that "savenow.exe" is not installed on my computer. Then I
installed the WordPerfect 10 suite.
No luck. Still get error message after the splash screen that an error
has occurred and WordPerfect must close.
At this point, I can think of only three options:
(1) Install WP 9, or WP 8, to see if they will install.
(2) Reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. I have very many
programs, so this option will cause me about 2 months of work to reload
all the programs (there are very many system restores needed in this
process.)
(3) Buy a cheap computer that will run WP only, and network to my
exiting computer. My existing one I bought in December.
Try downloading the trial of WP12 and see if that runs.

There are several printers registered, including Acrobat pdfwriter, APF
faxprinter, Capture Fax BVRP, FaxTalk Communicator, simply "Fax", and
two printers on a network.
Can you remove all those extra Fax devices? If I were sitting by your
computer scratching my head, that's what I'd try first. :-) There sure
is plenty of opportunity for mischief with all of them in place.
I have finally managed to install WordPerfect 10, and so far it works.
I'm not sure what caused it to work after so much trouble, but one thing
was that I uninstalled the template files for both version 10 and
version 11, as well as the folder that contained the template file for
version 11. If this is what caused it to work, I am embarrassed that I
didn't try this sooner.
I have updated to service pack 4.
Now, I have the Dell WP Productivity pack that contains WP 11 and QP 11.
I have downloaded the trial version of WP 12, but not installed. Am
I better off keeping WP 10 suite, or trying to up grade to either?
If you do decide to upgrade, go straight to WP12 in a box. Don't
reinstall your WP11PP and don't install the WP12 TBYB. Realistically,
the TBYB versions are for people that don't know about WP, and need to
be introduced to it. Except for a couple of side frills, the basic
functions of WP10 and WP12 are the same.
