I have a small network of 4 PCS, all Win2K SP2 except one SP4. Three run P9
SP4, one has P9Runtime. I have tried to keep all the Paradox programming up
to the same level on all machines. Things were great for a year. Suddenly
two of the machines have exhibited the same problem. When I try to inspect
the Data Model when editing a report, I get a GPV. It does not happen when
I open the DM for a form. Also these two machines give a GPV when running
reports, not forms. The other two run reports fine and the other P9 machine
opens the DM just fine. The Runtime machine, of course, cannot edit, but
runs the reports just fine. All the tables in the DMs are local to the
machine. All the BDE configurations are the same. I tried reinstalling
P9S4 on one machine, no help. I cannot think of what has changed recently
except adding cable Internet thru a 4-port router and Zonealarm to all
machines. Disabling Zonealarm does not help. Also, I noticed that the
Label Expert will not run properly on the GPV machines. Any ideas what to
look at or how to troubleshoot this?

What is *not run properly' ?

The label expert will open to the screen where I choose the label type, but
when I press NEXT, nothing happens. Again, this is only on the machines
that crash with the reports. I'm thinking that perhaps I should deinstall
P9 then reinstall - would this make a difference?

When pressing Next button, Paradox tries to access information about the
default printer from Registry as shown from this Regmon excerpt:
1 5.44699467 pdxwin32.exe:1340 OpenKey HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows SUCCESS Key: 0xE3553900
2 5.44706927 pdxwin32.exe:1340 QueryValue HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\device BUFOVRFLOW
3 5.44713547 pdxwin32.exe:1340 QueryValue HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\device SUCCESS "Lexmark Z700-P700
Series,winspool,Ne00:"

As you get GPVs when handling reports, I would reinstall the printer driver.

Incredible. I changed printer drivers and the problem is now gone!
Thank you.

Also the GPVs ? or only the Label Expert problem?

Did you reinstall the printer drivers or did you upgrade?

The default printer for the two problem PCs was a network printer that was
powered off. When I changed the Windows default printer to another printer
and restarted P9, both problems disappeared - the GPV when looking at the DM
for a report and the Label Expert problem. When the printer is on and
available and the default, neither problem appears.
