When I change the Net Dir in BDE Admin and then exit, I get a "Cannot find
engine configuration file" message. The 'details' say "BDE Error: 8452
[$21][$4]". I have 'full' access to the shared folder on the network and
have saved and opened files from it. This is an XP Pro client with a W2K3
server.

Maybe you don't have enough rights to the local drive or where the
configuration file is stored, or/and the registry.

Did you install Paradox with administrators rights?

Are you running Paradox with administrators rights?

Can you change and save other configurations parameters in the BDE Admin?

And which is reported as being opened by BDE Admin? The title of BDE Admin
tells you which file it is.

I am able to write to the drive and open files that I write to it. I have a
user on the client configured as an administrator and I log onto the server
with the same user name and password. I am not sure if that means that I
have administrative rights to the client. I do not know how to give
administrative rights to the registry.

I did install Paradox as a user with administrative privileges (same as what
I use to log onto server).

Same answer as above.

Will try to change other configuration parameters in the morning.

The one loaded on the client c:\Program Files\Borland\Common Files\BDE
(going by memory on the path, but defintely on the client c: drive)

If it is the one specified in Registry

HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\Software\Borland\Database Engine\DLLPATH=

then it has to be a case of not being allowed to write to that folder.

You are right. I did not have enough rights set to allow the client to get
at the files. I am green at that too!

Thanks for your help!
