Trying to advise some friends, who have an old system, a really old system.
They are using a DOS based Wordperfect. They do have Windows for Workgroups
3.11 and I do think they have a Windows version of WP, but I know they
accessing in a DOS environment.

To make a long story short, they are thinking of getting a new computer and
they want to know if they are going to be able convert their files from DOS
to a newer WP.

Since we are talking a lot of layers of upgrades here, can they do it. Can
you advise me as to the best plan of actionin terms of upgrading? Can we go
directly from a DOS version to WP 12 for example or do I have to do it
incrementally. Any hekp will be appreciated.

As long as all converters are installed, any WP version can read WPDOS files.
The only limitation I know is that v8 and later do not correctly print
graphic shapes created with the ASCII Box-drawing characters. Of course
formatting will change slightly, since different fonts will be used.
